behind the watches:
the designer’s perspective
Designer’s Perspective.
Copper darkens, softens, evolves. In many cultures it has signified conductivity – of energy, of heat, of exchange.  In our universe, it conducts time itself.
T-Michael

Un Passing Time

As we mark 15 years of Norwegian Rain, we return to a collaboration that felt instinctive from the beginning – our partnership with Italian watchmaker Unimatic. Where our first watch explored time through weathered copper—“Time weathers everything”—this edition looks earlier in the process. This new edition, Un Passing Time, is its prequel. Here, we capture copper before corrosive activation—before patina forms, before the surface tells its story. It is a meditation on suspension. A quiet moment before change becomes visible. Copper is central to this story. It is favoured by T-Michael not only for its tonal warmth, but for its honesty. It reacts to air, humidity and handling rendering each dial unique.

oxidized copper dials

No two watches are identical

Each dial is laser-cut from galvanised copper and subjected to controlled oxidation, creating a unique patina—no two are the same.

Time does not rush. It accumulates. Un Passing Time is our way of honouring fifteen years – not through nostalgia, but through continuity. Not through conclusion, but through reflection.  And getting lost in time!

Unimatic

With time, the Italian watchmaker Unimatic has quietly become a cult favourite among collectors, known for merging the finest design references from past and present – guided by its ethos: to craft exceptional watches. Founded in 2015 by Giovanni Moro and Simone Nunziato, industrial designers trained at Politecnico di Milano, the brand blends iconic watch inspiration with a distinctive design language.

Production is managed at Unimatic’s dedicated facility near Milan, where each timepiece is assembled with a focus on quality and precision. Editions are released in strictly limited numbers, often exploring unique colorways, materials, or collaborations—making them highly collectible.

“This time, we have taken the oxidation process on the dial to a new level. Capturing copper in its quiet state, before full patina forms. Darker, more uniform, yet every piece remains unique"
Giovanni Moro, Unimatic

IN-HOUSE PRODUCTION

UNIMATIC manages the production of its timepieces at its dedicated facility near Milan. Every stage of the assembly and testing is conducted in-house to ensure the highest quality standards. Each watch is thoroughly tested on site for accuracy, power reserve, and water resistance up to at least 300 meters. All watches come with a 24-month warranty.

The dials of these two references are produced through a careful, multi-step process. Each one begins as a galvanised copper sheet, laser-cut to precise dimensions before being individually separated. They are then exposed to a controlled oxidation process in a salt and ammonia environment, developing a unique patina—ensuring that no two dials are exactly alike. Selected dials are sent to a specialised facility, where indices, markers, and the UNIMATIC logo are precisely stamped. A protective coating is then applied to preserve the surface and ensure long-term stability. Once completed, the dials move to assembly, where the movements are cased and each watch is put together. Every piece undergoes individual quality control, including accuracy testing and water-resistance verification.

Size guide

In case you are wondering

Please note that variation in fabrics – the weave, the weight, the thickness etc – results in price variations. Not the colours.

They all share the same functional qualities:

– 100% waterproof.
– Breathable.
– Windproof.

Super Lightweight – our spring / summer fabric – soft and light and often combined with mesh lining for extra breathability

Lightweight – Versatile. Spring/summer/autumn.

Mixed fabric – Our all-year, best selling fabric balancing weight, tech and style

Hopsack – Understated tech feel. Refined. Most suitable for autumn / winter.

Herringbone – Elegance. Premium. With reference to tailoring. Most suitable for autumn / winter.

You really asking us this?

Well, our state of the art Japanese fabric is extremely water repellent thus repelling fluids. The equally advanced membrane keeps the water from seeping through the fabric simultaneously enabling the fabric to breathe. These 3 actions combined makes the fabric 100% waterproof: function and comfortable in use!

20,000 water columns for the tech savvy out there.

SPOT CLEANING

Our outer fabrics are water- and stain repellent, and stains can easily be removed by spot cleaning. Use a wet cloth with no detergent. Next step, should the above action fail, is to apply a wet cloth soaked in a mixture of washing up liquid and water. Wipe gently in circular motions. This will not harm the fabric in any way, it removes oil based stains often found in food etc.

MACHINE WASH

In general, for all garments except the ones containing shearling the following machine wash instruction applies: The garments can also be cleaned in the washing machine. Wool programme. 30 degrees celsius. No bleach, no softener, no spin-drying/centrifugation and no tumble dry. Hang to dry. It is all stated in the care label inside the coat. We recommend special detergent for waterproof outerwear (like NIKWAX), but also wool detergent can be used. Important! Dry cleaning is NOT applicable on our garments. It will destroy the membrane and the coat will no longer be waterproof. Note for Wool shearling: For S-Cape, M65 and Caban Double Breasted the following instruction applies: S-Cape, M65 and Caban DB are constructed with a detachable wool shearling collar. Please remove this before cleaning the coat. Then all the general recommendations from the above section applies when cleaning the coat. The wool shearling can be hand-washed with wool detergent on low temperature (max 30 degrees celsius). The Moscow also has the detachable wool shearling collar and hood that can be removed, but it also has wool shearling inside the coat that is fixed and therefore voulnerable for machine wash. We recommend hand-wash for this style.

WATER REPELLENCY

If you at any point feel the need to boost the water repellency of your coat we recommend the duo pack from NIKWAX. This is an eco friendly waterproofing/impregnation made especially for waterproof garments and it is easy to use. Just follow the cleaning instructions. It is available in most outlets selling high-end waterproof outerwear / outdoor gear.
