As we mark 15 years of Norwegian Rain, we return to a collaboration that felt instinctive from the beginning – our partnership with Italian watchmaker Unimatic. Where our first watch explored time through weathered copper—“Time weathers everything”—this edition looks earlier in the process. This new edition, Un Passing Time, is its prequel. Here, we capture copper before corrosive activation—before patina forms, before the surface tells its story. It is a meditation on suspension. A quiet moment before change becomes visible. Copper is central to this story. It is favoured by T-Michael not only for its tonal warmth, but for its honesty. It reacts to air, humidity and handling rendering each dial unique.
Alex approached the project through precision—embracing GMT functionality and disciplined timekeeping. T-Michael leaned into the opposite impulse: getting carried away, losing oneself in time, subtly highlighting the passing of days rather than the counting of hours.
The result is an Italian-made GMT field watch built for endurance—300m water resistance (≈1000 ft / 30 atm), individually pressure-tested, powered by the Seiko NH34A automatic movement with a 41-hour power reserve and hacking seconds. At its centre sits a one-of-a-kind copper dial, laser-cut with 31 apertures marking each day of the month. The hands reflect the philosophical approach.
With time, the Italian watchmaker Unimatic has quietly become a cult favourite among collectors, known for merging the finest design references from past and present – guided by its ethos: to craft exceptional watches. Founded in 2015 by Giovanni Moro and Simone Nunziato, industrial designers trained at Politecnico di Milano, the brand blends iconic watch inspiration with a distinctive design language.
Production is managed at Unimatic’s dedicated facility near Milan, where each timepiece is assembled with a focus on quality and precision. Editions are released in strictly limited numbers, often exploring unique colorways, materials, or collaborations—making them highly collectible.
IN-HOUSE PRODUCTION
UNIMATIC manages the production of its timepieces at its dedicated facility near Milan. Every stage of the assembly and testing is conducted in-house to ensure the highest quality standards. Each watch is thoroughly tested on site for accuracy, power reserve, and water resistance up to at least 300 meters. All watches come with a 24-month warranty.
The dials of these two references are produced through a careful, multi-step process. Each one begins as a galvanised copper sheet, laser-cut to precise dimensions before being individually separated. They are then exposed to a controlled oxidation process in a salt and ammonia environment, developing a unique patina—ensuring that no two dials are exactly alike. Selected dials are sent to a specialised facility, where indices, markers, and the UNIMATIC logo are precisely stamped. A protective coating is then applied to preserve the surface and ensure long-term stability. Once completed, the dials move to assembly, where the movements are cased and each watch is put together. Every piece undergoes individual quality control, including accuracy testing and water-resistance verification.
